OELDS: Cognition, General Knowledge and Approaches Toward Learning for All Young Children

This newly created module of Ohio’s Early Learning and Development Standards (OELDS) is designed for early childhood educators and administrators. Implementation strategies will focus on children ages 3-5.

This module has been developed to assist in understanding the ways in which early childhood educators can provide quality learning experiences and intentional teaching strategies that appropriately support approaches to learning (engagement, curiosity, initiative and creativity) as well as cognitive development (executive function, attention and memory) as young children construct content knowledge in mathematics, science, and social studies.

Particular attention will be given to supporting children with disabilities and preschool dual language learners.
