Hanna Perkins Butterfly Garden

The Hanna Perkins Butterfly Garden – Gift of the Hershey Foundation is a learning garden for students at Hanna Perkins School, and provides food during the season for their school lunches.

Students participate in the care, harvest and preparation of their food, which is served each day in a family-style lunch. In 2012, the Hanna Perkins Butterfly Garden – Gift of the Hershey Foundation contributed about half of the vegetables used in the Hanna Perkins kitchen.

A small area of the garden also has been set aside to serve as a a community garden, with families from the neighborhood and surrounding communities leasing their own plots for a nominal fee. The lease includes regular watering and basic support for overall gardening activities.
