The Hanna Perkins Center for Child Development is housed in the award-winning restoration of the former Malvern Elementary School, in one of Shaker Heights’ beautiful residential neighborhoods. We offer offer services in the following areas:


Hanna Perkins School

Hanna Perkins School offers a best-practices preschool, kindergarten and parent/toddler program focused on emotional intelligence  – the ability to understand, communicate and manage feelings. The program is built on respect for the child as a complete individual, and on a deep understanding of early childhood development. The individualized curriculum extends beyond academics to include physical, social, emotional and creative development.

The school features a high level of individualized attention through a unique partnership involving teachers, parents and child development specialists. Such abundant use of highly qualified resources assures that our students leave Hanna Perkins well prepared to thrive and excel in any receiving school they may enter.

Hadden Clinic for Children & Families

The Hadden Clinic for Children & Families utilizes highly trained therapists to provide evaluation, assessment and treatment services for children and adolescents, including psychotherapy, psychoanalysis and developmental guidance. In addition to our main Shaker Heights location, Hanna Perkins has a satellite office in Westlake.

Community Engagement: Training and Consulting

Hanna Perkins-trained therapists and teachers conduct workshops and training for professionals who work with children and families, including educators, social workers and therapists. Most trainings qualify for continuing education requirements of teachers (Ohio Approved Hours) and social workers (of these qualify . The Center also offers consultation services to Child Care Centers and Family Child Care Homes under the auspices of Invest in Children and  the Special Needs Child Care Program of Starting Point for Child Care and Early Education.

Reinberger Parent/Child Resource Center

The Reinberger Parent/Child Resource Center offers classes, workshops and drop-in playtime for children and parents, providing information and understanding about the Hanna Perkins philosophy and approach. It also oversees the Hershey Foundation Butterfly Garden, a learning garden utilized by Hanna Perkins School, with space offered to members of the community to bring parents and children together in the rewarding function of growing and tending their own garden plots.

Child Psychoanalytic Training

The Hanna Perkins Center has developed a unique curriculum of local and distance learning for medical and non-medical mental health practitioners interested in the discipline of child psychoanalysis.

The Hanna Perkins Library, which is open by appointment, offers a leading resource for professional books, articles and parent guidance materials based on more than 60 years of work with children and families.
