Participants will gain an understanding of the effects of COVID-19 on young children and families. We will discuss and identify the uniqueness of early childhood trauma and age appropriate responses to trauma. Participants will learn how to communicate while wearing masks, and how to continue to follow best practices for child development while adhering to state re-opening requirements and restrictions.

Objctives

Participants will discuss and identify the uniqueness of early childhood trauma, the many ways young children experience trauma, and stressors that affect the level of trauma children may experience during the COVID 19 pandemic.

Participants will identify and discuss circumstances occurring during COVID 19 that may affect a child’s level of functioning. Participants will understand how children respond to trauma at levels of development( 0- 6 years of age).

Teachers will understand their role in helping children navigate going back to school and classroom changes. Teachers will understand how to provide support to children and validate their needs. Teachers will understand the the importance of promoting resiliency in children.

Participants will be aware of the early learning tools that screen for trauma exposure in children. Participants will identify ways to support children’s individual developmental needs.
Participants will identify and discuss in breakout groups how to create a classroom that meets the state re-opening requirements and provides best practice techniques.
