This workshop will discuss the principles and standards of ethics for psychoanalysts, psychologists and social workers; and how these ethical principles relate to work with children and their parents.

Ethics is not just a matter of crossing sexual boundaries. Other issues that must be considered include: How our illnesses and life stresses impact the work; separation in treatment/abandonment of the patient; the wish to parent the child (and possibly the parent); gifts from the child and/or parents as well as the wish to give gifts to the child/parent.

What about dual relationships? What if our values are different from those of the families? Is self-disclosure helpful to the patient, or a narcissistic interference in clinical work? What can you say when asked about your personal life?
